Matt came home from his alert Saturday at lunchtime with a minor itchy rash down his arms and up his neck. He took some antihistamine and for about 3 hours, the rash went away so we thought something in his shirt had irritated his skin. Well by the time he had put Henry to bed, he was itching like crazy and the rash had spread to his face and scalp. Our neighbor Jo offered to keep an eye on Henry, so Matt and I headed to the emergency room in town. Fortunately the ER wasn't crowded at all yet, so Matt was seen pretty quickly. At this point, his skin was bright red, blotchy and super itchy. He was given IV steroids and Benedryl, which stopped the itching right away. We cannot for the life of us figure out what caused this allergic reaction - he's never had this happen to him. It must've been something from the building he was in on alert, but he's been out there a million times with no reaction.
So he's obviously been taken off of alert duty until he's finished with the meds. He sees the doctor on base this morning so we'll see what he says. He was still blotchy and itchy last night.
