Veterans Day

Last Tuesday, we drove down to Alexandria to get Evelyn's help sending some boxes of our clothes back to Minot. She has a discount with Fed Ex which was a huge help (thanks Evelyn!). Afterward, we decided to stop by the Pentagon Memorial. It was very chilly out but we reminded ourselves that we would be wearing shorts if we were in Minot, haha. It turned out to be an excellent day to visit because the parking lot was almost completely empty and traffic was very light.

The benches are arranged by birth dates, starting with the most recent. The benches that come up out of the ground and point towards the Pentagon represent the passengers who died on the plane. The benches pointing the opposite way represent the Pentagon employees who perished. The names of family members who also died are engraved under the other one's bench. There is a small reflecting pool under each bench, which prompted Henry to continuously say, "water!" the whole time.

I'm glad you posted pictures of the memorial. We haven't made it down there yet, and I couldn't get a good picture in my mind of what the benches looked like from newspaper descriptions, etc. Wow, I can't believe it's almost time for you all to be heading back. : ( Time flies!
