This past Tuesday, we headed to the state fairgrounds (in Minot of all places) for the North Dakota State Fair. It was the perfect day to go because the weather was beautiful, Matt had the day off amazingly, AND it was Military Day. One of the local Minot groups hosted a free roast beef lunch for military families and it was quite yummy. From 1-3 pm, the carnival rides were free when you showed your military id.
We wandered all over the place looking at tractors, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, bunnies... you name it. There were several petting zoos and a camel ride. Henry enjoyed all the animals from the comfort of his stroller of course, hehe. One of my favorite things was the 4H exhibit in the main arena. They had all of the state champions' projects out on display. There were quilts (my personal fave, not sure why I didn't take any pictures!), wooden furniture, photographs, seeds, lettuce, grasses, ceramics, drawings, sewing projects... everything! Henry even enjoyed looking at some of the categories, especially the model rockets one, haha. We also watched a little kids' tractor pull with pedal tractors. It was a serious competition because the top 3 winners are heading to nationals!
The rest of the day, we stuffed ourselves full of carnival food goodness. We had hot mini donuts, kettle corn, freshly squeezed lemonade, Dippin' Dots, and a fried onion bloom. Delicious!
Henry was not a fan of the rides. He just rode this one with Matt, and cried just about the entire time. Of course after they got off, he wouldn't stop talking about it, haha.
Henry's favorite "tractor" in the entire fair. Sure is a scary combine!!
Checking out the cows up close. Excuse the crazy hair, it was pretty windy that day! He also had a rug burn on his nose.
We also watched the Extreme Canines show in the afternoon. Henry really loved it and actually clapped in excitement with the crowd when the dogs would catch the frisbees or jump really high. This particular dog's name was Flashy Ferrari and she could jump so high! Matt almost missed her in the shot when he took the above picture. She broke her own personal best jumping record in the next pic (at least that's what they said, hehe). The group was from California and they enjoyed name-dropping the likes of Oprah and Ellen. The little Jack Russel in the group had apparently been on those shows.

Fun times! That tracker looks like it's from some sort of sci-fi movie, scary.
