We experienced our first North Dakota blizzard a week ago, and it was quite impressive. Fortunately we were all safe and warm at home when it hit unexpectedly. The howling wind was so loud! The picture above was taken around 4 pm.

The snow on our screen door here is actually stuck between the screen and the glass - that's how hard the wind was blowing!! The mailbox by our door kept blowing open and was full of snow by morning. The next day, the mail put in there didn't even get wet sitting in all that snow - it was just too cold!

Snow also blew into our garage through the eaves. Everything in there was covered with a generous dusting of snow. The following few days brought air temperatures of 30 below with a wind chill of 55 below. Of course, I had an eye doctor appointment one of these days, so that was great fun! It was so cold that I coughed every time I inhaled - it was unreal. As my neighbor Jo said that day, "Why do people live here? It should be turned into a wildlife reserve where all the polar bears are sent to escape global warming." She and her husband showed us that night how you can throw boiling water up in the air and it instantly turns to snow. It's hard to see since they did it at night, but you get the idea.
This next video is one they took of their chow Roscoe enjoying the blizzard. He absolutely loved it - they couldn't get him to come back inside! Just listen to that wind!

Oh my gosh, that is unreal! That reminds me of reading "Little House on the Prairie" when I was little - the time they got snowed in for months! We're having a rare 72 degree day here - I'll try to send some sunshine your way!
All I have to say is WOW!
Wow, that is so cool (I can say that as I sit comfortably in Virginia, LOL)! I can't believe people settled up there, in those puny little shacks and dugouts! They must have been such hardy people! No wonder they don't like outsiders, LOL--they must think you all are so soft! : )
